This Italian meat sauce recipe will become a staple in your home when you can leave all of the yummy ingredients to stew and have the rest of the day to get things done. You’ll come back to a house filled with the smell of a delicious, savory meat sauce recipe that has just the right amount of natural sweetness from the grated carrot and Ella’s 1 Baby Food.  Leave your door open and neighbors will be sure to come by asking “What’s for dinner?”

Ingredients

(we encourage you to use organic ingredients where possible)

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 onion, diced
1 lb lean ground beef
2 teaspoons kosher salt, divided
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 cup water
1-28 oz can diced tomato
1-15 oz can tomato puree
1 pouch of Ella’s Kitchen Ella’s 1 Baby Food – carrots, apples + parsnips
1 cup carrots, grated (optional for added texture)
1 medium red bell pepper, diced
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teasspoon onion powder
2 tablespoon Dried Italian Herbs
1 bay leaf

Method

1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a medium saute pan and saute onions for 4 minutes, add the ground beef and 1 tsp of salt and saute another 4 more minutes, breaking down the meat as it cooks.
2. Add the ground beef and onions to the Crock Pot.
3. Whisk 2 tablespoon of tomato paste into 1 cup of water until the paste dissolves
4. Add the tomato paste mixture to the pot along with the remaining ingredients and stir to combine
5. Cook on low for 6-8 hours
6. Serve over pasta
